Abstract
Patent ductus arteriosus in premature new born could be associated with complications, which are avoided by an early surgical closure in the operating room.
We report a 28 weeks premature neonate in whom 4 weeks after birth the surgical procedure was successfully performed in the Neonate Intensive Care Unit (NICU), using instruments and staff of the operating room (OR).
The decision of performing the procedure in NICU was supported by the long distance between the NICU and the OR and the increased risk of complications connected with transportation.
The advantages and risks of this approach are discussed.
